The International Hempology 101 Society presents the first annual Gulf Island Cannabis Film Fest Saturday at the Roxy Theatre on Gabriola Island.
Produced in the U.S. in 2005, Waiting to Exhale is the first full length film to focus upon medicinal cannabis issues.
The film fest will consist of a variety of activities, beginning at noon with a Stop S-10 Street Meet, the film, a discussion and raffle to conclude at 4:20 p.m.
The events will begin with a Stop S-10 Street Meet from noon to 1 p.m. at the ferry terminal.
For over a year, the International Hempology 101 Society has focused upon encouraging people to speak out against legislation of the Conservative government to introduce mandatory minimums for "drug crimes." Under S-10, growing as few as six cannabis plants will invoke a mandatory prison sentence of at least six months.
The movie will begin shortly after 1 p.m.
A panel of individuals will answer questions from the audience after the film.
Topics of interest will likely range from the Marijuana Medical Access Regulations, to dispensaries and how to make edible or topical cannabis medicines.
A raffle will be held at 4:20 p.m. to raise funds for the legal defence fund of the Victoria Cannabis Buyer's Clubs of Canada raided in December.
More details about the movie are available at waitingtoinhale.org. For more information, see hempology.ca or contact Ted Smith at 250-381-4220 or hempo101@gmail.com.
